About the Project
The goal of this Parks Maintenance Capital project is to replace the tennis court complex, lighting, restroom/storage, shelter, parking lot, site circulation, section of Four Mile Run Trail, site furnishing, drainage and landscaping in the Upper Bluemont area, as well as bring the area up to 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Funding to construct the project will come from an upcoming CIP budget.
This project address objectives specified in the Public Spaces Master Plan (PSMP).
About the Process
On Oct. 29, the project was officially kicked off at Ashlawn Elementary School with a meeting to review the project's scope of work and schedule, presented an analysis of the existing site conditions, and conducted break-out sessions in which the community was able to ask questions and share ideas with the project team (view community comments from the meeting). Here is the presentation from the meeting.
In June and July, we started reaching out to the community to see how they use courts, parking, shelter, etc. at Bluemont. The public was invited to share their experiences at Bluemont via an online questionnaire and in-person canvassing at the 2019 Arlington County Fair, parks and tennis courts around the area. The online feedback tool accepted responses through Aug. 31 and the results will be used to help plan upcoming outreach efforts.
