About the Project

The Stratford Park renovation project is moving forward! Stratford Park was identified and funded for renovation in FY2015 as part of the Department of Parks and Recreation’s ongoing effort to replace aging facilities to bring them up to current standards. In early 2015, the County worked with the community to develop a concept plan for the site. The approved project scope includes updating the tennis and basketball courts and expanding the diamond field so youth baseball games can be played at the park. Visitors will enjoy better seating for the teams and spectators, ADA accessibility to all the park facilities, a new picnic area, new light fixtures and new site furnishings.
The project was put on hold while Arlington Public Schools completed a community process to develop a schematic design for the location and addition to convert HB Woodlawn School to a 1,000-seat middle school. Delaying the park renovation project ensured that the school building design will not impact the park’s athletic field or tennis and basketball courts. We are ready to move on the Stratford Park renovation.
As part of the ongoing Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) program to replace aging facilities and to bring them up to current standards throughout the County, Stratford Park was identified and funded for renovation in FY2015. DPR recently developed a concept plan which shows the layout of the updated facilities which are sized to meet current recreational standards, ADA access paths, stormwater facilities, and improved team and visitor seating.
The concept is a tool to inform the County, APS and the community on how new school access routes and other changes to the school site within the park boundary could impact the plan for park improvements. DPR may make some changes to the concept as final costs for the improvements are determined in order to ensure the project remains within budget.
