September 2021 Update: As part of the Sparrow Pond design planning process, County contractors need to investigate utility locations. The S. Park Drive entrance to the W&OD trail will be closed for two days to conduct this work. The closure is now scheduled for September 24 and 27. In case of inclement weather, the closure could be rescheduled or extended.
We apologize for the inconvenience. We encourage trail users to take the 7th St S entrance to the W&OD trail for your recreational or bicycle commuting needs. Detour signage will be posted on Monday, September 20.
Spring 2021 Update: Due to concerns about the raised water levels and the W&OD trail and embankment, a beaver baffle will be installed in April 2021 to help keep water levels stable. Please note that the baffle is not harmful to the beavers. Learn more about the beaver baffle.

About the Project
Sparrow Pond was originally constructed in 2001-02. Over time, the pond has filled in with sediment. The restoration was identified as part of the 2012-13 Watershed Retrofit Study, and funding was allocated for design through the Capital Improvement Program in 2018.
The project goal is to restore the pond to the original depth by removing sediment, add a sediment collection forebay to allow easier maintenance and sediment removal, maximize water quality benefits, and restore habitat.
