South Eads Street from 12th Street South to 15th Street South
The project team is developing preliminary designs that continue County efforts to develop South Eads Street into a complete street. Information on earlier phases of improvements can be found on the South Eads Street Complete Street project page.
About the Project
This project will provide infrastructure upgrades along the northbound side of South Eads Street between 12th Street South and 15th Street South to improve travel conditions for all road users. The southbound side of the street will receive improvements as part of adjacent property development.
The existing streetscape on the northbound side includes a partially protected bike lane, inconsistent sidewalk, and a lack of street lighting. The Master Transportation Plan, Crystal City Sector Plan and corresponding Crystal City Multimodal Transportation Study call for South Eads Street to be reconstructed into a complete street – a street that provides a safe environment for all ways of travel including walking, biking, taking transit, and driving.
Improvements being investigated include adding physical protection to the existing bike lane, reconstructing and realigning sidewalks, adding street lighting, and making necessary utility modifications and upgrades. Together these improvements will create a safer, more accessible, and more comfortable environment for all users of the street.
