As part of the County’s programmatic repaving effort, North Quincy Street was repaved in the summer of 2018 and protected bike lanes were added.
Arlington County incorporated multimodal improvements during the repaving effort. Improvements include the addition of a protected bike lane in both directions on North Quincy Street. The protected bike lane structure moved the current bike lane next to the curb in each direction, and parking is now located between the bike lane and the traffic lane.
This relocation of the bike lane and parking helps create a safer biking environment by protecting bicyclists from moving traffic and from parked vehicle doors opening/closing. This protected bike lane also creates a more bike-friendly connection between the Quincy Street corridor and the Custis Trail.
