About the Project
This project will build upon recent improvements along North McKinley Road/North Ohio Street to provide safer connections between the W&OD Trail and McKinley Elementary School for people walking, biking, driving and riding transit.
Features of the project include shorter pedestrian crossings, ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps, improved trail access, and clearer intersection operation for all road users.
Outreach is ongoing and will include project information and feedback boards posted on site, design presentations to local stakeholders, and regular project status updates online.
An online engagement form was shared in May 2021. Participants were asked to review information about the project background and goals, existing conditions, provide feedback on concept design and answer questions about your experience using the intersection of North Ohio Street and 12th Road North.
A virtual community meeting was held on June 2, 2021, and featured a short presentation and a question and answer session.
The engagement opportunity closed on June 6, 2021. Staff are now reviewing public feedback and incorporating the input we received into the project concept.
The total project cost is estimated at $500,000, based on preliminary designs.
The project is funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Plan and made possible by funding from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. NVTA is responsible for long-range planning, prioritization and funding of regional transportation projects in Northern Virginia.
