About the Project
The Crossing Clarendon (Market Common) Public Space
The applicant, Regency, is applying for a minor site plan amendment for Site Plan #339 to redesign the interior plaza and public space at the intersection of North Edgewood Street and Clarendon Boulevard. As part of these redesign efforts, the applicant has agreed to undergo a co-led community engagement process to help better inform the proposed design of this wonderful space.
If granted, the minor site plan amendment will allow for substantial pedestrian improvements around the perimeter of the public space area or “loop”. The existing slip lane at southern end of the parcel will be converted into a pedestrian area that expands the size of the central plaza and connects it to nearby retail. The applicant’s proposed draft design also includes improvements such as new pavement treatments, an updated central area, new perimeter fencing and seating, and barriers to block off traffic from the new pedestrian area. This redesign is intended to allow for a wide range of experiences for community members to enjoy.
This public space was originally designed as a gathering space for the community. It is included in the Clarendon Sector Plan (adopted in 2006) and serves as frontage for retail space, outdoor cafes and public events or activities.
About the Process
Mar. 4- Mar. 18: This online engagement consisted of an online presentation (video/ slides) and an opportunity to provide thoughts related to current use of the site and visions for its future. Community comments helped inform the applicant's draft design concepts.
