The overall goal for the proposed 24-inch water main is to increase the County’s water distribution system redundancy and transmission capacity. The new main will be the backup to the existing 30-inch main that supplies the Lee storage tanks and pump station located at 24th Street North and North Wakefield Street. This important link will also ensure that our Gravity One pressure zone (eastside of the County) has access to the water stored at the Lee storage tanks.
The Gravity One Supply North Water Main project has been divided into two phases to avoid construction conflicts with the forthcoming renovation and expansion of the Stratford Middle School facility. The first phase of the project on Vacation Lane runs in front of the existing Stratford /H-B Woodlawn site and is in close proximity to Stratford Park that will be undergoing renovation later as well. The second phase of the project will continue north along North Taylor Street from Lorcom Lane. Construction is anticipated to begin in FY19.
Phase 1 includes the construction of 1,350 linear feet of a new 24-inch diameter water main. Due to the very tight clear space among existing underground utility lines, the work also involves removing and replacing 250 linear feet of an existing 6-inch diameter water main that currently serves the adjacent properties.
