About the Project
The Bluemont Junction Trail project scope will include milling and repaving as part of the County’s Trail Modernization Program and will improve the current conditions of this heavily used multi-use trail.
There are currently 16 existing trail connectors. An assessment of the existing connectors will help inform surface improvements, realignment and better accessibility. Connector improvements will also bring these areas up to ADA standards.
This trail serves as a major connection between the W&OD trail and the Ballston-Virginia Square neighborhood. Primary users include pedestrians and bikers who utilize the trail for both commuting and recreational purposes.
Routine milling and repaving projects like this one are necessary to prevent unsafe surfaces cracks and uneven surfaces.
About the Process
Project construction is expected to take 5-10 days to complete in three parts (weather permitting). Detours will be highly marked and executed using a phased approach:
- Part 1: partial closure and detour along N Bluemont Dr, N Emerson St and Wilson Blvd
- Part 2: full closure and detour along the W&OD trail and Wilson Blvd
- Part 3: partial closure and detour along the W&OD trail and Wilson Blvd
See detour details mapped out HERE.
