Arlington Boulevard and Manchester Street
Construction work has been completed.
This project was implemented under the same contract as the Arlington Boulevard & Park Drive intersection safety improvements project.
About the Project
Arlington Boulevard (Route 50) carries an estimated 64,000 vehicles daily through the Manchester Street intersection. Traffic volume and speed, coupled with significant truck traffic, create a hostile environment for pedestrians, bicyclists and transit riders.
The County has developed a plan for an urban-style intersection that will reduce speeding and the incidence of collisions, ultimately improving safety for all modes. The project will create better access and crossings on the shared-use paths parallel to Arlington Boulevard.
- New ADA curbs ramps
- New asphalt pavement and lane striping
- Signal upgrades
- High-visibility crosswalks
- Storm drainage pipe upgrades
The project is funded through the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Highway Safety Improvement Program and administered through Arlington County.
