15th Street S Pedestrian Improvements – S Eads Street to Richmond Highway
Location
15th Street South from South Eads Street to Richmond Highway
Status
Planned
The project team is developing preliminary designs to upgrade the pedestrian streetscape along 15th Street South, including sidewalk improvements and pedestrian safety treatments at intersections.
About the Project
15th Street South was identified for improvements in the Crystal City Sector Plan as a way to improve pedestrian access between the Crystal City Metrorail Station and destinations west of Richmond Highway.
The existing sidewalk is narrow and the pavement condition is poor. 15th Street at the Richmond Highway southbound off-ramp is a challenging intersection for pedestrians, with long crossings, heavy turning traffic, and limited visibility.
This project will improve the pedestrian streetscape to provide a safer and more comfortable route to and from the Crystal City Metrorail Station. Potential improvements include upgrading sidewalk and pedestrian ramps, realigning and shortening crosswalks, and landscaping improvements.
The County is also working on improvements to 15th Street South east of Richmond Highway as part of the 15th Street South/South Clark-Bell Street Realignment project.
