Design options for S. Arlington Ridge Road and 28th Street S./S. June Street
The crossing of South Arlington Ridge Road and 28th Street South/South June Street has been identified as a location for pedestrian improvements that will increase safety for pedestrians trying to cross Arlington Ridge Road. This intersection is used by students from the Aurora Hills neighborhood that attend Gunston Middle School.
Two design concepts have been developed for this intersection:
This option would reduce the crossing distance for pedestrians at each leg of the intersection by expanding the four corners of the intersections (curb extensions). It incorporates four high visibility crosswalks.
This option would install a concrete median on the southern segment of South Arlington Ridge Road and curb extensions in the southern corners of the intersection. The median would provide a refuge place for pedestrians if the crossing gap is not long enough to walk the entire crosswalk.
